Over the weekend a few friends and I headed down to Emerald Isle for a few days to catchup, listen to music, each other, and the waves. A few beers, board games, I even got to spend a few hours working on comics while the other guys did some work calls on Friday. Not a terrible way to spend two days.
A few other tidbits from the week:
- This essay by Edouard Leve, “When I Look At A Strawberry I Think Of A Tongue” was a very beautiful read. It’s written in a very stream of consciousness style as a summary of a life – that feels almost like it was intended to be letter to the people that knew him, to be opened after his death.
- Danette and I are really loving, “White Lotus” Season 2 on HBOMax. The whole cast is incredible. I don’t know if it’s quite as good as season 1 but its still great. Jennifer Coolidge is absolutely killing it every time she’s on the screen.
- The boardgame, Wingspan. Nathan, Kyle and I played this over the weekend (Pictured above – sort of) Lots of fun. A really beautiful looking game. Interesting mechanics, a little luck, a little skill. I’d play this again for sure.
- Comics: Finally caught up on Craig Thompsons, “Ginseng Roots“. Thompsons skill with a brush and panel layouts are maybe the best in comics (ever?) every page is oozing patience, skill and craft. The series is about his youth working in Wisconsin Ginseng farms and about the history of Ginseng in China and the US.
