Family The boys were home for the week of Thanksgiving and we were joined by some of Danette’s family for the meal. It was really nice spending time together and the meal was nice. I got to smoke 5 turkey breasts on my Akorn kamado-style grill and they came out fantastic. Maybe the best turkey I have ever had. (For sure it was the best turkey I ever made.) We only ended up eating about 3 of the breasts but I wanted leftovers so am glad I made as many as I did. Last two thanksgivings I didn’t make enough – so this year I went a little nuts but I’m happy. All 5 fit on the grill at the same time and it all came out perfect. Sorry no pics of the meat – with everyone here it was hard to be social and think about taking pictures. I’ve always been pretty bad about taking pictures of events. But I’m trying to be better about it.
All In all, it was a really nice low key Thanksgiving and I miss the boys already. I think Thanksgiving might be my favorite holiday…
Drawing I’m hard at work on a few different projects and made a teeny bit of progress. But with the full house, I ended up spending more with the family and less time in the shed with my projects. More this week for sure. I did however dig out my colored pencils and looked at some you tube videos after getting inspired by some uber-realistic stuff on instagram (David Morrison, I mean, wow dude).
Gardening and other random bits It’s definitely fall here in Virginia and getting dark way too early. We had a couple freezing overnight and the plants in the backyard finally look finished. So this week, I spent a few hours doing putting the garden to sleep. The first thing I did was dig up and transplant a big hosta plant the was in front of the shed. This spot is probably the sunniest spot in the entire backyard and the hosta grows fine but the leaves get burned to a crisp by the sun. For the past two years I’ve thought, “I need to move this thing” and this year, I finally did it.

- John Scalzi advice to leave social media and start a website (sounds familiar?) His advice: let’s all start websites and make one post each week. Maybe we can stop giving so much attention and power to these nutty billionaires. And make a point to visit each other outside of social media once in a while. I like it. I’m in.
- Just started Christopher Buehlman, “Between two Fires” Historic-Fantasy set in Normandy during the Plague. I loved “the Blacktougue Thief” and this was actually rated higher on goodreads.
- Vera Brosgol, What were you raised by wolves?” a great little short comic.
