Project List: Frozen North Ice Fishing Short: I finally started working on projects again starting with this Ice Fishing comic script Kevin gave me in February. I’ve been in a rut creatively for the past month or so and it felt good to be drawing again. The “rut” didn’t last very long (objectively) but it felt different somehow. So, I’ve also been doing some soul searching on why I (we all?) go through these creative cycles. I’m really not sure where the search will lead. Probably toward some sort of buried anxiety or mild depression that I’m probably (definitely) too chicken to face at the moment. Whoo! Anyway, the plan for this is to ink and tone. I should be able to finish up before the weekend.
Reading: I just finished reading, “Ducks” by Kate Beaton. I found this to be inspiring, lovely and heart breaking. Ducks is an autobiographical story about the author’s experience working in the Alberta oil sands to pay off college loans. Let me know if you want my copy and I’ll drop it off or mail it to you. ( I can say this because no one is reading this har har jokes on me).
Weekend Activities: I was burned out this past week with the time-change and some work things wrapping up. So, I just took it easy. I took some walks, did a little lifting, a little reading. I watched a bunch of sports, got into season two of “The White Lotus” with Danette. Went to a wizards game with Koli and got to spend some time outside. Likely, the little warm snap we just experienced was the last 70 degree temps we will have until spring, so I’m thankful I got to spend some time out there this weekend. Cold now: and probably will stay that way until March.
3 Reads – Still trying to do a selection of readings everyday to stay connected to inspiration. Some standouts selections from week 2:
Essay: “Where do you get your ideas” – Neil Gaiman – It’s a question that get’s asked a lot to people that do creative work. I totally identify with the part where people try to give you their great idea as if that’s the hard part (lol).
Short Story: “The Eyes – Blindness” by Javi De Castro – Very creepy little comic, love the way he handles the invisible objects, flashing in an out of existence.
Poem: “Forgetfulness” Billy Collins
Love this approach to posting, like a running journal.
