Holy crap this weather. I know it gets hot every summer but the combination of the lack of rain and the heat is rough. I like to get out in the back yard and water my trees but everything else is just crisping up. Pictured is a Wild Indigo Duskywing butterfly hatching on the front porch of the shed. I noticed the chrysalis on Sunday and happened to catch it hatching as I went in to get a coffee this afternoon. It’s sitting on a native Blue False Indigo (Bapitsa Australis) that I bought in June and haven’t planted yet.
I’ve been building an interest in native plants over the past few years and recently discovered this channel on youtube> “Crime Pays but Botany Doesn’t“. It’s a great channel for wierdo’s like me. The host is a super giant plant geek. The link describes his channel perfectly:
A Low-Brow, Crass Approach to Plant Ecology & Evolution as muttered by a Misanthropic Chicago Italian. We study plants through the lens of ecology and evolution, rather than what supposed anthropocentric uses they can provide (as if holding up the biosphere wasn’t enough).
This was the first video of his I watched and now I’m watching every update.
Yay Native Plants!
Yes for sure! I’m trying to be patient about how aggressive I am about adding new natives and replacing grass with mulch/natives.
