New year etc. Still recovering from this cold/gunk/crud. But I thought I should get a post in.
Looking back on 2023 I think I did ok on my goals. We ended up having a blast in the UK and I did end up getting to 1,000 miles on my bike. Even after completely losing my mind and doing no exercise at all for all of February, March, April and May. By the end of May I had cycled 89 miles, my goal of losing weight went backwards and I found myself up 10 pounds. (fart noise)
But at some point in June, I busted out like a chubby butterfly and hit the road! Accomplishing 1000 miles by early December, losing the 10 pounds I gained, and came in at new years 1 pound lighter than I started 2023! Hah hah! not a total fail!!!
Finally, my goal of working on my friend Nathan’s comic, Finn the Furious, was a compete bust. I ended up spending most of my creative time working on my DnD campaign and spent zero seconds on this comic project. The campaign work has been very different and challenging for me creatively but is definitely eating up my drawing time. I need to find a better balance there this year.
So for 2024 I am focused on a couple things:
- Finn the Furious. Im doing it. full stop. one comic finished by the end of the year.
- Cycling – I averaged close to 160 miles over June- October last year. I think I am going to shoot for 2,000 miles this year. I really don’t think I can make it but I’ll never know unless I try.
- Limit social media and read more. This one is probably the easiest and most unlikely to happen. But it seems so simple. All the hours absolutely wasted on instagram reels and reddit should be recoverable. I need to think what this actually means and see if I can set up some rules for myself…more later.
- No big travel plans this year since we are doing our bi-annual trip to Myrtle beach with Danette’s family. I think I’ll stock up on leave so we can do something cool in 25.
Other miscellany:
- TV, Still loving Fargo season 5 on FX. excellent
- Reading, Dan Jones, Essex Dogs, 2023. Good not great. Fictional account of England’s invasion of France at the start of the Hundred Years War. Decent action but I never really got into the characters. They lived. They died. They were just sort of there doing things.
- Movies, Leave the World Behind (Netflix), Julia Roberts in, “Karen does the apocalypse”. spoilerish review: lots of people not knowing what is going on, panic a little (just a little, really – not that much), sit by the pool, dance a little, your kids’ teeth fall out, do nothing, get no clue what is really happening, the end. It was a movie. I actually sort of liked it, but it’s not must see.
Happy new year, people. More soon.
