It’s been a crazy 10 days here in the Shed. My oldest son, Colin, graduated from college last Friday and I couldn’t be more proud of him. The weather was perfect and the ceremonies were great. He’s a great guy and I can’t wait to see what he does next.
Between hosting 5 grandparents in Blacksburg for the graduation, helping my youngest son Marcus move out of his dormitory, coming back to NOVA and having a really nice Mothers Day with the whole extended family, one of my crowns falling out, a trip to the dentist to fix my tooth, everyone leaving town and then capping it off with my 50th birthday. It was busy, stressful, emotional, beautiful, melancholy, fun, funny, amazing and tiring. Danette was amazing as always and I honestly don’t know how she does it! I’m so distracted and busy in my own head most of the time while she is keeping everyone and everything coordinated, supported, fed, clothed, sheltered, happy and moving together. Hats off to her. (maybe I should get more credit for choosing really well when it came to partners. Apologies to her for her poor choice :p )
Anyway, I’m glad to be back home and getting back to normal routines. Taking advantage of the quiet to take stock of everything that went on last week and focus on personal projects again.
DnD
- Wrapping up Chapter 0 of the DnD Campaign I’m running. It’s my first time DM’ing and It’s been fun so far. Learning a lot about how to plot the campaign and plan each session is a great challenge. Im generally more interested in drawing handouts and making maps then worrying about whether or not things make sense so I am working on it. Enjoying stepping out of my comfort zone.
- The downside is that I haven’t had as much time for drawing.
Reading/Watching
- Finished a couple books since my last post. I ended up loving Night of the Living Rez by Morgan Talty and Impossible People by Julia Wertz. Both deal with mental illness and addiction in different ways and will stay with me for a little while.
- Currently reading:
- Birnam Wood, Eleanor Cotton – some kind of eco terrorist thriller. Starting off slow but picking up steam
- Ralph Azham, Lewis Trondheim. Love all his stuff. There is a big heart in the center of everything he does and his characters are great.
- Watching the NBA and NHL Playoffs. Rooting for a Denver/Miami Finals and leaning toward Denver getting their first title. Rooting for Carolina on the NHL side. I’ve been to a few games in Raleigh so they are my adopted home team (when Washington and Detroit are out of contention.)
- Still loving Ted Lasso (appleTV) and Succession (HBO). The shows couldn’t be more different but both are great.
- I’m trying to teach myself the opening bits of the succession theme on piano after watching Katherine Cordova play it in this badass video
