The beginning of last week, work was a total bastard. It felt like everything that could go wrong did and a few other little things decided to give me the bird as well. But, luckily everything calmed down and things got back to normal late Thursday. By Friday, I was ready to drink a beer and looking forward to hitting a Wizards game with my big brother Andy. (Here we are at Taffy’s Tavern next to the Cap One center. ) The Wiz blew a 20 point lead but who’s counting. Throw it on the pile.
The next day we met up with both my bros and we headed back downtown for more hoops! My cousin Kristi’s son Austin plays center for the University of Duquesne basketball team and they were in town to play George Washington at the Smith Center. A few of my cousins surprised us at the game too. I haven’t seen my cousin Brett in years! It was a lot of fun! The game was great, Austin was great and Duquesne really crushed the Colonials at home.
Other stuff:
- Working on a couple drawings but not much to share at the moment.
- TV – HBOs, The Last of Us Episode 3 was really good. I mean really good. After the first two eps I would say – if you aren’t a zombie fan then skip it. After episode 3 I’m recommending everyone jump on in.
- Reading – Finished up a couple things last week:
- “Which side are you on” by Ryan Lee Wong – I saw this on a best of 2022 list and picked it up because the author had the same name as my best friend (lol). It wasn’t my cuppa (not enough sword fights, space ships or grisly horror) but it was fine.
- A collection of short pieces by George Saunders, Pastoralia. This was really good. One story stood out “Sea Oak” which you can read here if you want.
- Do a Power Bomb by Daniel Warren Johnson. Great start to the series, amazing art, kind of fizzled at the end for me. Still all in on everything he puts out though. and his Friday night with DDubs is a standard for me while drawing in the shed.
