Ok January is basically over, let’s review my progress:
- Goal 1: Bike 1000 miles. 65 miles completed. I started the month off with a great week then fizzled a little then got back at it the last two weeks. I ended up with 65 miles done. If I divide 1000/12 I get 83.3333333. So technically 65 is not on-track. But, I think it’s ok for January considering the temperature, the wind and the early sunset…it’s winter. I’m thinking February will be similar and then I can really ramp it up in March.
- Goal 2: Lose 20 pounds 5 pounds down. I’m weighing myself weekly and using the last Friday of each month to report progress on this goal. I think weekly weigh-ins are good enough to keep focused and Fridays are the best day of the week because the weekend is generally a bit “expansionary” for me. I’m more likely to go to dinner find myself in bars with friends on the weekend. But then I have the weekdays to reign it in and be more sensible. So, on the 27th (The last Friday in January) I was down about 5 pounds from my starting weight. That doesn’t seem like that much for 30 days but I am definitely shooting for slow and steady here….life changes over crash diets yada yada. so I’m fine with this.
- Goal 3: Travel Abroad: On track – filled out my passport forms and have an appointment in early Feb at the post office to finalize everything. Should be fine for a summer trip abroad. (on track)
- Goal 4: Finn the Furious Chapter 1: oh boy – same story as last time nada, did not touch it. My eternal excuse is putting other creative projects ahead of this in the queue – this month it was my DnD Campaign. Which is still not done but at this point at least I realize I’m just making excuses so can try to do better.
Other than that, It’s been a bit of a slow week – very couch based. I helped Koli with a dead battery and then had to get a new battery on my camper too. Danette and I are looking to take the camper and the dogs out for a night or two in February but it will depend on the weather a little. Most of the National and State parks near us are closed to camping in the winter months so we’re looking around at private options like Hipcamp (basically AirBnb for campers.) we shall see. It’s all still new to us.
- TV: Danette and I are watching The Last of us on HBO and really digging it. Basically, It’s plant based (fungi) zombies. Sure zombies have been done before and this one isn’t really special – reminds me a lot of The Girl With All The Gifts. but that’s ok. I’m digging it. I couldn’t sleep on Saturday and ended up watching all of “Somebody Somewhere” on HBOMAX. It’s a bit sad and funny with a couple great characters. I loved it. I think I laughed and cried about 10 times but…I was really tired and probably still drunk so maybe it was just me….?
- Reading: working through a few things at the moment – Do a PowerBomb by Daniel Warren Johnson, Meditations my Marcus Aurelius and Pastoralia by George Saunders. All three are good so far.
- Sports: The Wizards are having a little run of good games and have won 6 straight (4 since trading Rui Hachimura for peanuts)….Kyle Kuzma’s colorful outfit made me laugh (I kind of love this kid) Also enjoying all the stuff going on with Leeds United in the January transfer window.
